The Cana Island light station grounds, in Door County, Wisconsin, include a number of original buildings — the light tower, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places; the lighthouse keepers’ home, the hexagon-shaped oil house; a period brick privy; and a wooden barn (not shown).

"Explore Door County’s most iconic lighthouse, celebrating 150 years of standing watch on the shore of Lake Michigan in 2019. Ride a haywagon over the water causeway to explore the island, including the 89-foot-tall tower, the original home of the lighthouse keeper and his family, and the oil house where fuel for the light was stored. The highlight of any Cana Island visit is climbing the 97 steps of the tower’s spiral staircase to reach the gallery deck. The outside deck delivers a sweeping view of Lake Michigan and the Door County peninsula of Wisconsin. While the ascent is fun for visitors, imagine the lighthouse keeper’s job as he trudged up and down the steps each night,...

David T Wilkinson

David T. Wilkinson attended the University of Wisconsin, Madison and Milwaukee, studying art and architecture. He earned a Master's Degree in Architecture in 1975. As a child Dave first learned about photography in his grandfather's darkroom, developed his eye for photography during college, and has progressed with his art through digital technology. In addition to his photography, over four decades Dave created pen and ink artwork including Door County, Wisconsin scenes as well as custom residential renderings. Dave is a retired United Methodist minister, having served churches in Green Bay, Wisconsin and Cleveland Heights, Ohio.
