Description
This cross stands boldly on the bluff overlooking the fall colors of Ellison Bay, Door County, Wisconsin. It is part of the Liberty Grove Historical Museum. The commemorative placard on the cross reads: "Father Andre was an early Catholic missionary who ministered to the Indians of Door County in the 1670's at which time he erected a cross as a place of worship and as a reminder to his some 500 converts of their Christian faith and duties. This cross, erected in 1979, was made from hand-hewn pine timbers from the 100-year-old Rowley's Bay barn and is meant to be a replica of Father Andre's Cross which stood on the shore of Rowley's Bay until about 1870."
