Description
The Sturgeon Bay Ship Canal Pierhead Lighthouse is located in Wisconsin just off the coastline of Lake Michigan and was constructed in 1881. The light guides ships, particularly in the fog as when this image was captured, into the entrance of the Sturgeon Bay Ship Canal, which provides a shortcut to Green Bay, avoiding the dangerous Northern Passage around the Door County Peninsula commonly referred to as "Death's Door." Here the lighthouse keeper's catwalk is rendered in dramatic black and white with the lighthouse in faint in the fog.

I have a photo very similar to this one! I took it in December and braved the cold! Well worth the beautiful scene! f/v
